Claude Code tasks

Claude Code Task Management System

These days, the speed of release from Claude Code is quite … super sonic. As the CC creator tweeted last month, they use Claude Code to code for their releases, and tbh, they just released Claude Cowork this month. Early today, Claude Code 2.1.16 was released, and they introduced Claude Code Task Management System.

If you used CC for a while, you might be very familiar with their planning system: reasoning and then coming to implementing with TO-DO items. These to-do items are fine to keep track of what is done and what is yet to be done, but in a large project, it is not enough. To do does not have dependencies. To do might make AI forget what they did in the big context. And it is hard to keep track of the to-do across sessions and with parallel subagents.

Let’s look at a quick look at how the tasks look like in CC

As we can see, tasks have their “blocked by” means when coding agents for implementation, they know which tasks can be done first, and later tasks can also know the context of previous dependencies.

More information, please refer to the article “We’re turning Todos into Tasks in Claude Code“. I’m too lazy to write more about it as I also need to try it out 😀

An exciting side note is that these days, Codex and Gemini also push more focus on their own CLI system. Codex CLI has almost features in CC these days 😀 And tbh, their GPT-5.2-Codex High is really good at producing quality codes, even comparing with Opus 4.5.

That’s it and happy weekend !
