Today I decided to moved my Google Photos to iCloud since I cannot find an easy way to restore my Photos and Videos to my new i devices. Basically, I searched for a method to transfer Google Photos to Apple iCloud and was directed to the Apple Support page guiding to access Google Takeout to do the transfer. The fact is that accessing Google Takeout directly will not help since there is no option to select Apple iCloud in the Destination step (only other services link Dropbox).
So after searching and trying back and forth, I note here the steps to make this migration happen as follows
- First, login to your Google Account and acccess Google Dashboard (https://myaccount.google.com/dashboard)
- In the “Recently used Google services” section, click on “Transfer data” button on the “Photos” app.
- In the new Google Takeout for Photo page (https://takeout.google.com/takeout/transfer/custom/plus_photos?hl=en)
- Click “Continue” in the section “Choose the data you want to copy”
- Then, select Apple iCloud in the step “Select the third-party service you want to move your copy to”
- Next, we will then need to authorize Google Takeout and Apple services for all next steps.
So in conclusion, we just need to access the right page to enable the Apple iCloud option to transfer Google Photos to Apple iCloud
